Course Description

This webinar will be given in two sessions, on two dates, each 3 hours long. The webinar is available in the US and Canada via phone or VOIP, available elsewhere via VOIP.

About the Webinar:

The NOP Organic Processing Standards webinar is a 100-level course and is designed to prepare participants to verify compliance with the NOP Processing Standards. The course is designed as an essential session for the Processing Inspector or Reviewer. It is highly recommended for organic handlers, processors, consultants, educators, extension, and certification agency staff and can be used as a credential to seek work as an entry-level certification file reviewer. This course is also geared to prepare those who intend to take further training to become organic inspectors or file reviewers.

This Webinar Training course will focus on topics including the National List of approved ingredients both natural and synthetic. It will also cover labeling, inspection, and certification requirements. Participants will gain skills in navigating the regulations. 

The webinar will be presented by experienced organic inspector and IOIA Trainer Garry Lean.

This course is comprised of 4 components: self-study pre-webinar and mid-webinar assignments, the webinar presentations, and a final evaluation exam. The self-study components include exercises that are completed and submitted in advance of the webinar presentations for day 1 and day 2. The self-study component encourages participants to prepare and explore resources on the web applicable to organic processing inspection and review. The webinar will include in-class discussion, examples, exercises and the opportunity for questions and answers. The course concludes with an exam to evaluate individual learning.

Due Dates for the assignments:

Pre-Webinar: 12:00 Noon (Pacific), June 17, 2022
Mid-Webinar: 12:00 Noon (Pacific), June 23, 2022
Final Exam: 11:55 pm (Pacific), July 1, 2022

Your Pre-Webinar Assignment will be emailed to you two weeks prior to the due date. Your Mid-Webinar assignment will be emailed to you at the conclusion of the Day 1 Session. Your Final Exam will be sent to you at the conclusion of the Day 2 Session.

The course may require 2-4 hours to complete the self-study pre-webinar exercises in advance of the webinar, 1 ½ hours to complete the mid-webinar assignment and approximately 1 ½ -2 hours to complete the exam following the webinar.

Requirements

Certificates:  Participants who meet minimum requirements will receive an IOIA Certificate of Completion for NOP Organic Processing Standards Training. 

Letters of Participation:  Students who attend but opt out of assignments and the exam, or fail to achieve a passing score, will receive an IOIA Letter of Participation for NOP Organic Processing Standards Training, to document their attendance.
