Contract Inspectors - Ecocert

Ecocert USA is looking to expand our network of experienced, independent contract organic inspectors to support inspections in:

  • East Coast (New York / New Jersey)
  • Midwest (multiple states - based on your location and availability)

What you’ll do:

  • Conduct on-site organic inspections for farming operations and/or processing/handling facilities (scope varies by assignment)
  • Review records, verify practices, and document findings in a clear, timely, and professional manner
  • Submit complete inspection reports and supporting documentation by required deadlines
  • Communicate professionally with operators and certification staff before and after inspections

Requirements:

  • Prior organic inspection experience
  • Knowledge of organic standards and organic production/processing systems
  • Strong documentation and time-management skills
  • Ability to meet reporting timelines and maintain confidentiality
  • Professional conduct, attention to detail, and strong communication skills

Description:

The Department of Horticulture at Iowa State University is seeking a Program Specialist I to support urban and organic agriculture education and outreach through program development, community engagement, and applied research. This role collaborates with Extension staff and community partners to deliver educational programs, coordinate events and host on-farm demonstrations. The Specialist will create outreach content, and support research activities, reporting, and grant-funded initiatives such as the Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP).

Contract Organic Inspection Work Available Now in Iowa

The Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association (OEFFA) is seeking experienced inspectors to complete poultry and beef/dairy operation inspections in Iowa, between now and Mid-October. We have approximately 24 inspection assignments available right now.

Additionally, OEFFA is always seeking qualified and passionate individuals interested in joining our team of contract organic inspectors.  OEFFA certifies crop, livestock, and handling operations in a 12-state region, from Wisconsin to Virginia, from Missouri to New York. We seek inspectors to contract with us to complete inspections, doing as few as 15 and as many as 100+ inspections per year and organizing their own schedules. We have an immediate need for crop + livestock inspectors in/near Iowa.

Requirements include: IOIA Inspection training certificate in the scope(s) which one is applying to inspect, or comparable training/experience; and 3+ years of experience in agriculture or similar work or comparable education/training. Necessary skills include: written communication, time management and knowledge of the organic standards.

Depending on the applicant’s prior experience, we may set up an apprenticeship, where mentor and apprentice complete several inspections together. We seek inspectors to contract with us to complete inspections, doing as few as 15 and as many as 100+ inspections per year and organizing their own schedules.
