SUMMARY
The Inspector works with certification staff and clients to assess overall compliance of operations to regulatory standards through on-site observations and evaluation.  The Inspector travels to conduct interviews of operations, audits records, and provides technical assistance to support the needs of clients in the area of inspection. The Inspector works with certification staff to enhance the program through continuous improvement.
 
Applicants must be located within the United States.
 
The salary range for this position is $54,500 to $73,000.  The total pay range takes into account a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skills, experience and training, location, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.  The disclosed pay range estimate has not been adjusted for any applicable geographical differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.  This position also qualifies for a hiring bonus of $5,000 gross. At Oregon Tilth, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the posted pay range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

About the Standards & Verification Team:


STANDARDS & VERIFICATION

The Standards & Verification team at the Non-GMO Project is responsible for maintaining the technical integrity of our Product Verification Program. We stay up to date on developments in the world of GMOs, support our third-party certifiers who are known as Technical Administrators (TA) in administering the Non-GMO Project Standard (the Standard), and facilitate the overall quality assurance of our programs. Our team is a cross-section of scientists, researchers, technical implementation virtuosos, maestros of quality, manufacturing industry veterans, and solution seekers. We’re skilled at wading through the details, interpreting and synthesizing complex information, speaking industry language and using our expertise to ensure that the Standard remains North America’s most trusted standard for GMO avoidance. What We’re Looking For 

We are seeking a mission and values-aligned certification professional who excels at translating desired compliance outcomes into pragmatic, clear, actionable and effective requirements, while always keeping in mind the big picture.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Program Integrity and Standardization

    • Draft and disseminate standardized program documents and technical administrator reporting templates; maintain document control procedures

    • Track, manage and report on compliance deadlines; work with technical administrators as required to ensure program participants complete compliance transitions

  • Administration, Organization, and Integration

    • Create and maintain a Technical Implementation Calendar managed according to organizational priorities, program needs, and changes in the larger GMO landscape

    • Write implementation guidance, integrating peer-written interpretive guidance, and publish to technical administrators to support their clarity in understanding Standard requirements

    • Manage recurring program activities such as periodic updates to information tables that inform compliance 

    • Plan, execute, and facilitate technically-focused events  

    • Provide visibility into and project management for longer-term projects 

    • Develop processes to harmonize the application of compliance requirements using iterative and collaborative approaches with both technical administrators and internal stakeholders  

  • TA Technical Support

    • Function as technical liaison for technical administrators helping them troubleshoot challenges relating to PVP technical implementation. 

    • Manage the Technical Administrator Portal (TAP), a key resource for technical administrators to access technical and other business collateral, applying continuous improvement and optimum user experience principles

  • Calibration and Harmonization:

    • Develop the concept for, plan, produce, and facilitate technical administrator gatherings for the generative exchange of non-confidential information and ideas to support program integrity and elegance


Experience You Bring 

  • 5+ years of professional experience in the certification space in the technical division of either a standard-owning organization or a certifier

  • 3+ years of managing 1-3 direct reports 

  • Experience working with external stakeholders in both service provider and service receiver roles

  • Experience with designing and leading projects of various durations

  • Demonstrated ability to organize, manipulate, and interpret data

  • A demonstrated ability to learn quickly and think strategically 

  • Solid computer literacy, including experience with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office

  • Education, lived experience, professional experience, or a combination thereof in the fields of agriculture, biology, supply chain management, manufacturing, or food science is preferred

Job Description

  • Assure new client/renewal applications, compliance plans and supporting documents contain required descriptions, protocols, procedures and records to demonstrate compliance with applicable standards.

  • Maintain record keeping systems in compliance with internal procedures.

Qualifications

  • Must have sufficient expertise in organic production or handling techniques to successfully perform the duties assigned. Sufficient expertise must include knowledge of certification to USDA organic standards and evidence of education, training, or professional experience in the fields of agriculture, science, or organic production and handling that relates to assigned duties.
  • Must have the knowledge, skills, and experience required to perform certification review of operations of the scope and complexity assigned and to evaluate compliance with the applicable regulations of this part.
  • Excellent communication skills in person, on the phone and in writing.

NSF is Hiring - Auditor II Product Certification

As Auditor II Product Certification – New York/ New Jersey, you will be responsible for providing audit services to Certification programs and other NSF clients.

 
  • Conduct monitoring and initial audits 
  • Manage enforcement issues stemming from certification audits 
  • Provide a timely report of corrective actions 
  • Conduct special visits to investigate product failures and verify the implementation of corrective actions taken by NSF clients - Investigate and resolve complaints 
  • Develop cost effective work plans for the completion of assigned audits 
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with program representatives and project managers as it relates to assigned clients 
  • Monitor and report client needs, service delivery issues, and competitive threats to management team 
  • Develop business by responding to inquiries, conducting introductory visits, conducting seminars, and attending conferences in support of NSF’s business units (as authorized) 
  • Support NSF’s business units by assisting clients in the identification of additional NSF services that may be beneficial (examples – new products for certification, test only services, quality system registration)

Qualifications:

  
  • Bachelor degree in environment health, related science or business degree

  • Ability to work independently from remote (home based) location

IOAS Executive Director position

From the E.D. of IOAS:

After nearly 24 years working with IOAS and 11 years as Executive Director I have decided it’s time for me to step down and make way for a new incumbent. We plan to have somebody in place by January 1, 2025 and I will stay on until January 31, 2025 so it’s certainly not goodbye yet! 

For me it’s been an incredible journey and privilege to work with the IOAS team, seeing it grow from 3 people working only with IFOAM accreditation to now over 30 staff and engaged now with 80 CBs working directly with regulators and schemes focused on cosmetics and textiles as well as organic agriculture. I am truly proud of IOAS’ reputation as a somewhat unique ‘organic AB’, hard-working, expert, accessible, diverse, attentive to CB’s and scheme owners’ needs as well as tough. We are one of the best at what we do but still humble enough to want to do better. 

These years have brought me into contact with many wonderful people around the world, all of whom show incredible dedication to growing organic agriculture so thank you for sharing this journey. Given the amazing current IOAS Board, Committees and staff, I have absolutely no doubt that IOAS will go on from strength to strength and whoever takes over the helm at IOAS will be in an enviable position.

MOFGA Certification Services, LLC (MCS) is hiring two (2) full time Organic Staff Inspectors

MOFGA Certification Services, LLC (MCS) is hiring two (2) full time Organic Staff Inspectors to join our team. MCS is a USDA-accredited organic certifier, certifying over 500 crop, livestock, and handling operations in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. This position is critical for conducting a large portion of MCS’ inspections (at least 100 annually) across all MCS programs. This work balances creating a positive experience for our clients while conducting rigorous audits of operations and their records for compliance.  

In addition, the staff inspector will be tasked with conducting unannounced inspections, pesticide residue sampling, and generating reports and other documents for MCS, as well as training, auditing, and evaluating inspectors in our inspector pool. During the slower inspection months (typically December-March), the staff inspector will assist other program areas, including administration and operations, inspection planning, and file review work. The staff inspector will be expected to perform a significant percentage of MCS annual inspections (one-fifth of total inspections annually, at least 100) across all of MCS’ programs.

This position requires travel within MCS’ service territory, overnight travel, off-site visits to clients, as well as office-based work. This position is required to be Maine or New Hampshire-based and the inspector will be able to work remotely from home. IOIA training (or equivalent) and prior organic inspection experience preferred. The staff inspector position is best suited for a candidate that is excited to travel, visit farms and operations, help improve MCS’ inspection program, and help strengthen the organic label by being an auditor.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) is seeking contract inspectors for the 2024 growing season.  Requirements include any combination of the following: International Organic Inspector Association (IOIA) Training, prior organic inspection experience, or in-depth knowledge of National Organic Program standards through education and experience.

The Technical Manager is responsible for implementation of the program’s technical operations workflow, managing investigations, client escalations, and adverse actions, and providing technical support to the audit team. The Technical Manager works closely with the Technical Director to develop policies, procedures, guidance, and documentation related to the audit process, to ensure compliance with internal and external scheme requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The position has a primary focus on the USDA NOP Organic Certification program. The Technical Manager may support other programs and new program development as needed.

Technical Oversight

  • Mentor and develop strong technical review and auditing skills across the SCS Organic Program’s staff and contract auditors
  • Ensure team adherence to program workflows and quality processes to maintain compliance with NOP and program quality requirements
  • Review technical rigor and accuracy of work done by SCS staff and auditors to ensure sound decision-making and detailed reporting of key evidence
  • Verify staff and contractor qualifications and ensure ongoing compliance with auditor requirements
  • Review and submit comments on normative standards or other documents as applicable
  • Manage escalated client issues and adverse actions to deliver quality customer service and maintain effective technical oversight

Program Operations

  • Support Account Managers in navigating complex workflows or technical issues related to key or challenging accounts
  • Support Technical Director with recruitment and onboarding of contract auditors to ensure sufficient operational capacity
  • Lead or support program technical meetings, calibration activities, and trainings

Compliance Management

  • Maintain ongoing understanding of evolving National Organic Program standards and accreditation requirements
  • Represent the Organic Program during internal audits and accreditation audits
  • Support Technical Director in external program compliance and nonconformity resolution
  • Receive and respond to referrals from the National Organic Program (NOP) on issues related to SCS program or client compliance-related matters, such as adverse actions, investigations, or program non-compliances
  • Ensure program procedures and documents comply with accreditation standards

Auditing

  • Conduct audits and/or site inspections as needed in relevant scopes/schemes using appropriate checklists, forms, and tools
  • Support technical staff in review of complex issues and ensure consistency of interpretation among staff and contractors
  • Maintain positive client relationships and respond to client inquiries and concerns
  • Conduct final technical reviews and issue certification decisions where secondary approval is required

Program Quality and Development

  • Support Technical Director in development of program procedures and documents in compliance with quality system guidelines
  • Maintain program document control and versioning
  • Implement procedures, and provide technical training for program staff to improve quality and efficiency of audit and certification services
  • Develop work instructions, internal guidance, and staff training materials
  • Oversee auditor performance, and ensure that auditor witness evaluations are completed annually
  • Develop, schedule, and deliver annual auditor calibration exercises, ensuring auditor attendance and SCS calibration schedule meets NOP compliance requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years in a technical capacity working in USDA Organic Certification and familiarity with ISO 9001:2008 quality systems, or other applicable industry standards (additional experience in this capacity will be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree)
  • Formal training and advanced understanding of National Organic Program crop and handling standards (7 CFR Part 205)
  • 2+ years’ experience in Program Management, Technical Management, Lead Evaluator or similar
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis
  • Excellent technical writing, observation and data management skills
  • Strong communication abilities and demonstrated abilities in critical analysis
  • Ability to complete time-sensitive projects and to provide realistic deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Initiative and ability to work independently while tracking and meeting deadlines
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point

Additional Preferred Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (e.g. agriculture and/or biological sciences related), graduate degree preferred
  • Verbal and written proficiency in Spanish preferred

Work Environment

CA Office, Emeryville or Remote, US (Home Office)

Auditing may require international travel and extensive hours in the field. Must be able to walk and hike on rugged terrain and work in varying climates and outdoor environments.

Pay Range:

$75k to $95k Annually

PCO - TOPP Mentorship Program Coordinator

PCO is hiring a Transition to Organic Program (TOPP) Mentorship Program Coordinator. The TOPP Mentorship Program Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact and oversees the implementation of Mentorship within the Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP). With guidance and support from other TOPP positions and PCO Leadership, this position will strategize, plan, and coordinate: mentor/mentee pairing (PA/DE/MD/VA), coordinate with Core Partners overseeing mentorship in other states, and recruit new mentors and mentees. This position is funded through 2027 with no guarantee for refunding.

The Mentorship Program Coordinator will support stakeholder awareness and engagement for the TOPP program and provide support and facilitation of special events and projects related to PCO’s mission.
