Online - NOP - Basic Livestock Inspection Training - July 8 - 12, 2024

Course Description

The 4 ½ day comprehensive Basic Organic Livestock Inspection Training follows IOIA’s livestock curriculum requirements.

Course includes classroom instruction

  • Applying and using organic livestock standards;
  • Livestock materials;
  • Risk assessment;
  • Audit trail requirements;
  • Report writing;
  • Inspector conduct, confidentiality, and ethics;
  • Understanding the difference between inspecting and consulting;
  • Effective communication;
  • Organic inspection procedures for meat and dairy animals; fiber-bearing animals; and poultry (meat and eggs).

Schedule

The courses are scheduled from 7:45 am – 2:30 pm (Pacific Time) Monday through Thursday, with additional assignments for the evening, and 7:45 am -11:30 am on Friday. 

Participants must attend the entire course, to receive a Certificate of Completion or Letter of Participation.

Requirements

Basic Organic Livestock Inspection Training

  • A minimum of 1-year training and/or 1-year experience in livestock production, with knowledge of both organic and conventional livestock practices
  • Knowledge of basic accounting and ability to solve mathematical problems.
  • The 100-level NOP Livestock Standards webinar training (6 hours), is offered in October 2022 (TBA). If you have already completed this webinar, you are not required to retake.
